Attorney Karolyn Krillo specializes in resolving civil disputes and advising on transactions in the fields of real estate, construction, insurance, commercial law and the law of obligations.
Karolyn has extensive experience working in the judicial system. Karolyn has worked as an advisor in the Civil Chamber of the Supreme Court and for over two years as an advisor-lawyer in the Civil Chamber of the Tallinn Circuit Court, assisting judges in reviewing cases and preparing draft court decisions in various areas of civil law (including labor law, law of obligations, property law, corporate law, bankruptcy law).
In addition, Karolyn has worked as an counsel in a law firm. Karolyn assisted lawyers in preparing procedural documents and drafting legal opinions in the field of litigation, and in drafting contracts and conducting legal audits in the field of transactions.
Since 2017, Karolyn has been supervising seminars at the Faculty of Law of the University of Tartu, including the subjects “ „Introduction to Research Methodology, Legal Reasoning and Legal Writing“ , “Civil Procedure” and “ Civil Law: General Part”. In addition, since 2021, Karolyn has given seminars and lectures at the Institute of Family Medicine and Public Health of the University of Tartu and in the field of medical sciences in the subjects “ Fundamentals of Medical Law for Nursing Managers” and “Psychiatry in Judicial Procedure”.
Karolyn has conducted regular case law analyses on the topic of imprisonment law commissioned by the Ministry of Justice and a case law analysis on the topic “ Claims for Non–Pecuniary Damages in Civil Cases 2020-2022” commissioned by the Supreme Court and the Ministry of Justice. Karolyn has also participated as a legal specialist in the studies of the University of Tartu Centre for Applied Social Science Research: “Analysis of Labor Disputes”, “Credit Market Study” and “Scenarios for Ensuring the Resilience of the Estonian Economy and Increasing Crisis Preparedness”.
Karolyn participates in the work of the Liability Insurance Conciliation Committee.
In addition to law, Karolyn also has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in economics.
