NOVE counsel Eerik Heldna elected to lead the expert team to counter corruption and promote the implementation of anti-corruption measures in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

\u201cEU Anti-Corruption Initiative in Ukraine (EUACI)\u201d 2017-2019<\/a> is an EU initiative with the funding of The Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA<\/a>) which aims to mitigate the role of corruption in Ukraine by sharing relevant experiences and best practices successfully implemented in Estonia.<\/p>\n

NOVE counsel Eerik Heldna has been elected to act as the project leader and content manager by DANIDA and the Estonian Centre of Eastern Partnership<\/a>. Eerik has assembled an expert team composing of Police and Border Guard Board experts that will support the activities of Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU<\/a>) by training the officials and developing the organization itself. The main objective is to identify and map the needs of training based on which a corresponding training plan can be drawn up. The trainings will take place in Kiev and in Tallinn. The project will be funded by DANIDA and Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs funds for development cooperation and the activities have to be carried out during 2018.<\/p>\n

Corruption remains endemic in Ukraine and is a serious impediment for democratic and economic development in the country. Countering corruption in Ukraine is an important element of the EU Eastern Partnership Project that aims to promote bilateral economic relations between EU and Ukraine hindered by corruption and non-transparency.<\/p>\n

Eerik Heldna has worked nearly 20 years at the Estonian law enforcement and security agencies and has previous work experience with the Ukrainian law enforcement agencies.<\/p>\n
